It has often been said that the spirit of the holidays is lost in commercialism.
As I reflect on that statement; I, personally, don’t believe that spirit can be lost. Discarded, perhaps. Ignored, disrespected…. of course.
However, gifts, at their most basic are about giving and receiving… a back and forth, in and out… like a breath. And, as fate would have it, “spirit” is from the Latin inspiritus meaning “breath.”
In the process of this “breath,” you can open the door to others feeling; happy, celebrated, honored, remembered, grateful, connected, understood, loved and so much more… how great is that?!
Are you still recovering from Black Friday as Valentine’s Day beckons? Are you beginning to feel gift-giving stress takeover? Or, find yourself cursing Hallmark for creating another holiday? I assure you, you are not alone!
Yet, consider this approach; no pressure, obligation or stress – only the joy that comes from giving.
1. Stay focused on the spirit of the occasion. Whether new beginnings, happy completions, love or accomplishments.
2. Listen for clues... I find that if you pay attention to what your friends and family talk about, their “wish list” will practically write itself.
3. When you find something that you sense is “perfect” for a special someone, get it! Even if the occasion hasn’t arrived yet. You’ll be ready to spread the love when it’s time.
