Nothing to wear?

Last week was one of three with ideas to simplify your life and effortlessly getting things done… especially those long put off tasks!

But, then, isn’t that why things often don’t get done; because they seem complicated or difficult, or you just can’t find a way to fit them into your life?

Last week I posted an amazing Cleaning Calendar. And... not only did I share it with you, but, I USED it, too. It is so doable and has helped me keep order at home in a way that didn’t set me back.

You can check out the article here. Or, if you just want the Calendar, click here.

This week I want to share with you three favorite wardrobe tips that will help you immediately upgrade your style...

Did you know that most of us wear 20% of our clothing 80 % of the time. Translation: you wear the same things all the time.

Getting into this rut can lead to either; impulse buys contributing to the 80% you don’t wear, or, wearing your repeat apparel and not feeling or looking your best.

Here’s my remedy…

1. Pick out a week of outfits in advance. And group them together in your closet.

When you wait ‘til the morning to pick out your clothes, the tendency is to grab the same old thing.

But what about that colorful blouse hiding in the back of your closet, or gorgeous belt in the bottom of your drawer that you just had to have? Well, ladies. Now is your chance to actually wear them!

And don’t forget to pull out your accessories, too! Scarves loosely tied around your neck, or as a hair tie, some bangles stacked for a little sparkle, or those pumps or sandals with a pop of color to accent a neutral outfit.

Try to add one forgotten accessory or piece of clothing per day. You’ll be amazed how many great items you already have.

2. Get fitted for new bras.

When was the last time you were fitted for a bra? Most of you never have, and the rest of you aren’t the same size you used to be.

I was 30 before I new my proper bra size. I thought I was 36b, but, it turned out I was 34C! Just recently I discovered I’m now 34D. That’s what happens when you gain a few pounds — your size changes — and not just your dress size!

So, do your girls a favor and show “lift and separate” some respect. Skip Victoria’s Secret, and go old school. There are specialty bra shops in just about every mall these days, and Nordstrom lingerie department is perhaps THE best at sizing us gals.

Making the most of your shape sets the stage for wearing your clothes, instead of your clothes wearing you.

And while you’re at it, stand up straight and put your shoulder’s back. You’ll feel like a new woman!

3. Plan a Trader Moe’s party.

It’s a super fun spring cleaning version of a white elephant party.

Email your girlfriends and ask them to pick three gently worn items of clothing, shoes, scarves, handbags, accessories, or even makeup that they never used, wrap them and have a blind swap. These should be quality items that they don’t use…not junk;)

The rules are the same as a gift exchange:

a. Put all the gifts in the center of the group.
b. Put as many numbers in a bowl as there are guests. Everyone takes one and selects a gift in the order of the numbers they picked.
c. #1 takes a wrapped gift and unwraps it.
d. #2 can either take an item from the wrapped pieces in the center of the group, or “steal” what #1 has….and so on, until everyone has gone three times.
e. An item can be “stolen” two times. The second person to “steal” cannot have the item stolen from them.

This is guaranteed to simultaneously clear out and update your wardrobe. Plus, you’ll have lots of laughs!

I look forward to hearing about what you do to make the most of your wardrobe and the different ways you up your style quotient.

Or, let me know your #1 challenge, and I’ll send you a solution. I’m here to help and look forward to hearing from you.

In the meantime, have a beautiful day and remember I am in your corner…

Love,
Thais

  1. Really great reminders. I have a system of rotating my closet, but lately I HAVE gotten into a rut! I’m going to shake it up!

    • Hi Allison... I SO relate! In fact yesterday, on a whim, I went through my closet and completely reworked it. I expanded on the the principle of putting together a week’s worth of outfits and paired my entire closet into outfits without repeating items, until there was nothing left to combine. It forced me to pull out some pieces I liked, but never wore and wear them in a different way. For example, I have this super cute and soft casual sundress coverup thing that I used to wear to the beach when I lived in CA. I’ve kept it cause I like it a lot even though I don’t wear it in AZ. But, I took my own advice... pulled it out, put some denim skinny capris underneath and a loosely collared shirt tied at the waist over it. It’s darling! Relaxed, mixing patterns (floral and check) and makes me smile thinking of the beach! I’m glad we’re in this together:) Please let me know how your revamp goes...
