Ain't she moo-tiful?

Ain’t she moo-tiful?

You may or may not know it, but the inspiration for our entire brand is our “Holy Cow” t‑shirt. It’s a phrase I often use which gives both emphasis and humor… and quite simply our sweet girl’s face, is meant to make you happy.

Does she make you happy?

But, there is so much more that the humble cow brings to our lives…

You likely know that the cow, or rather the bull, is the starry constellation Taurus, and that the phrase “how now brown cow” was a phrase used as early as the 20s to teach clear and correct vowel pronunciation.

And, many of us are aware that to Hindus and Buddhists, symbolism of the cow deals with patience and holiness, and that it is considered India’s most sacred animal. The sacredness is due to the nourishment her milk brings as does a venerated “mother.” Hence, Holy Cow.

But did you know that in Vedic literature the cow is also a symbol of abundance and fertility?

And, in Norse mythology the cow makes an appearance as Audhumla whose udders emitted the four rivers of power — these provided nourishment for the giants (primarily the first giant, Ymir) that ruled the First World.

Also, in Christian art, the evangelist St. Luke is depicted as an ox and the Red Cow in Japan is a traditional toy thought to ward of illness.

Regardless of where in the world you reside, it seems that this animal has found its way into all of our lives and cultures.

So next time you look up at the stars, give your kids milk, make up a cow-tipping story or exclaim, “Holy Cow,” be gently reminded of all the goodness this gracious animal represents…

Patience
Nourishment
Abundance
Fertility
Female Power
Potential
Possibility
Calming
Groundedness

Gosh, I learned so much about our sweet gal... I daresay I love her even more! Do you have a “cow” story…? Or, a picture of you in one of our Holy Cow tees? I can’t wait to hear from you.

In the meantime, have a (moo)tiful day and remember, I am definitely in your corner…

Love,
Thais

P.S. Please share the love…
